Our Founding Story
Eber Medical Group was founded in Shanghai by Dr. Sun Chenyan (孙成彦), a pioneer in surgery for limb motor dysfunction disorders at the Department of Neurosurgery, Huashan Hospital, Fudan University. A National Medal Laureate and recipient of the All-China "Outstanding Contribution" Award, Dr. Sun is the postgraduate supervisor at Auckland University.
The group was established with a singular mission: to make world-class functional neurosurgery — particularly for cerebral palsy, Parkinson's disease, epilepsy, and movement disorders — accessible to patients across China and internationally. Eber Medical Group was the first in China to implement FSPR for CP, SCS for chronic pain, VNS for refractory epilepsy, and DBS for Parkinson's disease.
Today, Eber Medical Group operates two state-of-the-art facilities — Tianjin Eber Perennial Brain Hospital (300+ specialized beds) and Qingdao Yibo Hospital (45,000 m², 400 beds) — and has treated patients from more than 20 countries.

Dr. Sun performs the world's first Functional Selective Posterior Rhizotomy (FSPR) for a paralyzed hand. After surgery, patients perform fine motor tasks: cutting vegetables, tying shoelaces, brewing tea.
